Doel, the spooky village - Belgium, 2011
Located in East Flanders, the northernmost part of Belgium, Doel has the feel of a ghost town. Flanked by a nuclear power plant since the 70s, the village has been threatened with complete demolition due to the enlargement of the harbour of Antwerp since the beginning of the 2000s.
Enter the village, there is no noise to be heard, no step to be taken, life is scarce. In the pictures, feel the capture of the moment, the invisible and perceptible presence of the then village.
Properties have been expropriated. Some inhabitants fight back to hold on to their houses while abandoned buildings are turned into squats.
